Hey guys! I am interested to see when each osteopathic medical school starts their school year. Also, I would like to know the daily schedule as a student there, roughly when you're in class. I like to study on my own, and I'm looking for a school that will fit my study style. I have just found schools that you're in class from 8-4. If you have any info that would be great. Thanks!

If you're looking for a school with minimal/virtually no class time...LECOM-B offers plenty of independent study time. You meet for a couple hours a day in your PBL groups and then study on your own for the rest of the time. They have something called mini courses where you take a few abbreviated classes in the beginning, but overall....your schedule is your own.

LECOM-Erie also has PBL as well as an independent study track.

There was a similar question in the DCOM thread. Here is a link to the thread so I don't have to repeat what was said. We have plenty of time to study, so that isn't an issue. For us, school started in the beginning of August, so I would imagine that would be the same for next year.

I'm a first year at DMU so I can only speak for them. The only time you are required to be in class here is for OMM (1-2 times a week) and OMM lab (1 time a week for 1 1/2 hours). Other than that it is up to you. You are not required to go to anatomy lab (twice a week for 2 hours each time) but, in my opinion, that is the only way you're going to learn it. Other than that, it's your call. All of our lectures are taped and posted on MP3 after class along with the professor's powerpoint for that lecture. Personally, I am a person that benefits a lot from going to class but I know people who only show up to biochem and anatomy to take the tests, other than that I don't see them at school. Hope this helps.

I am an M1 at Nova and we started in August (not counting the late part of July for Orientations).

In the begining we were, with FEW exceptions, in class from 8-4:30 or so every day. Then as the semester has progressed, the courses seemed to allow a little bit of time for studying with anatomy labs ending usually around 3-ish and such. So usually we are in school until 3 (maybe 4 IF there is histo lab and anatomy scheduled the same day and you attend both) and sometimes even earlier (like noon time) if there is IGC scheduled or other nuances like that.

My daily schedule is to wake up around 6:30 and eat breakfast, get ready and go to school. In class and associated labs until about 3 typically. I usually find about an hour or so to unwind and relax after school, lately that has been eating, then taking a nap. Wake up around 5 ish and study until about 7:30, then take a break. Eat again and perhaps go online to check emails and pay bills etc. Then I usually start studying again around 9 to about midnight, sometimes later (Certainly later the few days before an exam).

I find it helpful to take like little 10-15 minute breaks after every hour or so of studying...for me that keeps me absorbing the material better.

So if you have any questions at all about NSU or the curriculum etc.. please feel free to email me or PM me.

Good Luck! 🙂

I am in NYCOM we have class from 8-5 PM almost everyday for our first course (Fundemantals to Osteopathic Medicine). Our next course will be a lot better from 9-12 and 9-2 with a few 9-4 days thrown in. There are 40 students in the class who after this first course start (DPC) PBL where they learn in groups with a faculty facilitator. I am not sure the exact time for (DPC) PBL groups maybe someone else on here would know.
