What's it like in a day of a pedodontist? Average amount of patients a day? Is it tiresome to see so many kids? Do they listen?

Are there pedodontist opportunities available for schools and hospitals? Any one working in either or did you open you own practice?

Any additional information would be great! Thank you!

A typical day for my practice..... I see on average 20- 30 patients a day. 10-15 of those are restorative patients ( using nitrous oxide almost every time), and the rest are prophy/exams, and consultations. I have a partner who has a similar schedule. Our hygienist will also see 14-16 patients a day.

I do 2-4 days in the operating room ( doing 4 full mouth rehabs on those days) a month.

Despite what many GP's may think, we do not have an office full of screaming kids. Crying children are not the norm in our practice, with exception of very young 2-3 year olds who may only be seen for an exam, or a new patient who has been traumatized by previous treatment at another office. We turn things around in a good way for those patients.
95% of our restorative patients are very at ease and cooperative during treatment.
We do not papoose children or restrain children for treatment ( with the exception of emergency treatment on very young children,,,, 2-3 year olds with trauma or an abcessed anterior tooth).

Generally the atmosphere in the practice is very fun, light hearted, but definitely busy.

Not every Pedo practice is the same though. There are a lot of differnt practice philosophies, but most I know are very similar to ours.

If you have the right personality and work ethic, it's an awesome career.

I am not sure what you are asking about schools or hospitals.
There are pedo positions at dental schools and some hospital clinics, but I ( personally) would not want to work in one of those positions, for many reasons.
99% of pediatric dentists are in private practice.
Best to you in your career.
