I graduated medical school in may and now realize that i made the wrong choice between medicine and dentistry. I am a firm believer that its never too late to fix your mistake. I am trying to get my materials ready for this application cycle. i am just curious if you think my M.D. will hurt me in the process.

Sounds like a troll....

why do you want to do dentistry instead?

Personally I don't think holding an M.D. degree will hurt your chances. It may actually help you. It demonstrates that you are able to successfully take on very rigorous material.

What would hurt your chances more is if you applied to medical school and did not get in, and then suddenly decided to apply to dental school the same (or following) year. This would show lack of determination and poor sporadic decision making. People in this position have a more difficult time than others I feel.

In summation, I think you'll be in good shape. Best of luck! 👍

Certainly could be a troll. But then again I never know.

I've discussed this question with an MD before. 😕

What residency did you match into?

You can always go back. There are a few pharmd students that went to medical school after. Not exactly the same, but you can see the struggles/hops that they went through.

Have you shadowed a dentist?

From a financial standpoint, this is just plain stupid. Do you really want to spend another 200k+ and 4 years of your life in school?

The field of medicine is so diverse and there are so many specialities that you are bound to find one that fits your interests/lifestyle needs. Stick with medicine. You need to give things TIME before you make rash potentially unwise decisions like this. You haven't even gone through residency yet, much less practiced medicine.

Some school have DDS/MD programs, so your MD will definitely not hurt you.
After all you did study the human body and dentistry focuses on part of the human body!!!

People change their career's all the time. Wasting all that money and time for an M.D. degree kind of sucks but oh wells. I do not see why a dental school would reject you as long as you complete your pre-reqs. I mean you already went through medical school, dental school should be a breeze and that is what the dental school really cares about, that you are able to handle their course load. That is why they do what they do, to weed out the people who will not make it.
