I don't know who watches Jimmy Kimmel (honestly, I don't... I can't stay up that late in my older age), but a good story about medicine and the impact it has on people's lives. The tests and studying can be daunting and distressing at times, but in the end, it is worth it and you can see why...

(FYI, it is kinda long)

Loved this story.

Unfortunately it turned into one big butt kissing fest/Argument on my Facebook feed as to why nurses are superior to doctors since the nurse spotted it first. Either way, the kid is alright and that's all that matters. I just wish people didn't make it about nurses vs doctors when we're supposed to be a team

Now if you instead had a doctor who was an Osteopath who could treat the "whole person"... :ninja:

I interpreted his story in that everyone involved in his child's care was important because, well...that's the way it truly was.

That's the correct interpretation.

Lots of nurses I know shared the post saying something to the effect of:

"yet another story proving nurses are the ones by your side 24/7, we're the ones who catch these things, unlike doctors who could care less, they aren't even in the room!"

One even went so far as to publicly declare she would like to "accept Jimmy Kimmel's heartfelt thanks on behalf of nurses everywhere"

Then the pre meds and Med students I'm friends with shot back saying the genius cardiac surgeon is the one who actually saved the kid

I'm just sitting here thinking that everyone played a part, the entire healthcare team. Yeah the surgeon did all the actual work, but who knows what would have happened if the nurse hadn't spotted the issue. Do I think the doctor deserves most of the credit? Well yeah of course, I'm going to school to be a doc, but the nurse deserves some credit too for her keen eye.

People are too concerned with who's smarter and who gets credit for what. This is the kind of crap that gives our profession a bad name. Can't everyone just be happy a child was saved?

Edit: fixed some typos
