1) What are your thoughts about it - worth it or not for writtens?
2) What hotel does Osler use & is it worth it, or would you priceline something else?
3) Would you buy the home study review, or do you get enough just by going?

Thank you all!

1) Didn't use it for writtens. I thought using old in-service exams, Roach handbook and just general reading during residency was enough for me. It was probably slightly more useful for orals if you couldn't do a mock experience with someone else.

2) They use a hotel in Louisville nearby the oral exam although they also started a session in atlanta a couple months before the orals the year I went.

3) I wouldn't use any prep course for writtens personally. A lot of this is going to be info that you've picked up through residency (hopefully) by reading. You've also had the experience of going through several in-service exams by this point hopefully to get test-taking experience multiple-choice questions over a few hours (similar to the format and length of the writtens).

I would agree with all of medgator comments.

Don't use it for writtens.

Consider for orals, particularly if you trained somewhere that did not give you mock orals during residency. I would do the oral course in Chicago a few months before the actual oral boards. Then you'll have time to make adjustments to your studying if needed.

FYI, when I registered for the Osler course this year (for orals) they told me they are no longer doing the option in Chicago several months before the exam. The only option now is the anxiety-filled right b4 the actual test experience 😱

I still pulled the trigger b/c my job pays for it anyway and I figure if I'm not loving it, I'll just cut out and study on my own.

Thanks for the update. That's too bad. Well, my advice would be to start practicing the oral format severeal months beforehand. My residency program did a very weak job of preparing us for this format. I studied with someone from another program where mock orals were a more formal part of the curriculum and the difference between us initially was significant.

good luck

Thanks for your replies - looks like I'll be able to save some money🙂
