What is the difference between Invasive, Interventional, non-invasive and non-interventional cardiology? How much training does each subspecialty require?

Invasive and interventional are the same thing. The subspecialties of cards are:

1) interventional
a) cath
b) ep

2) non-invasive

i am not sure what/if there are non-invasive subspecialties. echo might be one of them. cardiac MR might be emerging as one too.

cards fellowship is 3 years, sub-specialty fellowship is 2 years. to get boarded in cardiology, you needs 2 yrs so if you subspecialize, you can start it during your third year, therefore , for example, to do cath, you can finish it in five years.

I am under the impression that invasive and interventional are different. Invasive includes caths, but interventional is placing stents. A lot of cardiologists are qualified to caths, but few can place stents.
