Sorry for posting this in two folders - I'm still getting used to the site.

Hi y'all.

Came across this site, and wanted to solicit a bit of advice/feedback on whether I should retake the DAT.

Just a little background about myself. I was the social oddball in college, and slacked off too much. I was a professional rock climber for Red Bull USA instead of studying, and my grades show it. My undergrad GPA was a 2.9, and science GPA was a 2.8. My post-baccalaureate GPA was a 3.8. Extracurriculars and volunteering included a cardiology research abstract presentation in Japan, 1 year research in oral cancer, 1 year of research in breast cancer, dental volunteer work in Peru and Vietnam, and 600+ hours in a dental clinic. My extracurriculars are fine I think. Though because of my GPA, should I retake the DAT ?

My previous strategy for the DAT was using Kaplan and Top Score. (BTW, the Kaplan book really didn't help me prepare all that much, for whoever else is relying upon it.) Luckily, money isn't an issue for me, so I went ahead and applied to 24 schools this year. Though am left wondering whether or not I should retake the DAT. Everyone seems to swear by the Destroyer, perhaps it might give me a score I'd be more confident in 😎. Thanks for your time.

Well, i'll tell you one thing, you're EC's are awesome. With all those activities I think you may have a good chance at explaining your weaker undergrad GPA. I wouldn't re-take the DAT if I was in your position, you have a pretty well-rounded app. Good luck!

Looks like pretty solid extracurriculars. If you have some pretty spectacular experiences and your research was pretty in depth, its possible that you'll get in with that GPA. Your DAT score is slightly above average, but if you think you can improve it, I would take it again (if you don't get in this year). Since you can't redo your GPA, might as well redo what you can. Also, I'm a little short on cash here if you've got too much:laugh:
