How much can one honestly write when asked "Where do you see your medical career in ten years?"

It has no prompt to how long the response should be. I just don't think anyone can write too much besides that they will be in residency and what kind of city they see themselves in. You can say something about starting a family and all but I don't think that pertains to your actual medical career.

With this question, I believe that they are fishing for what type of doctor you want to be. Primary/surgery/peds/etc. Outside of that, the type of environment you live in (urban/rural/ghetto/etc.)

With what I have written up right now, I have made the following points:

1. I think that I will be a resident in a surgical subspecialty program.
2. I would like that program to be located in a large to medium sized city in the southeastern United States.

That should work. I'm assuming this is for VCU? That's basically what I put, and it was 5 sentences in length.

It is for UAB. It is the easiest secondary ever. That is the only real response question they have.

You should also add a little bit about why you see yourself in this specialty/environment. Think about the experiences you have had that have motivated you to pursue this goal. It adds a little more oomph to what you have to say and fills space. Anyone can say WHAT they want to do, but few can back it up and say why with a good reason. If you have a good reason for your choice don't be afraid to talk about it 🙂 ]

Good Luck!
