I looked through the ASA/NYSSA Political Action Committee Newsletter a few months back and glanced over the names just to see who contributed, and who didn't. I was appalled.

Not even my Chief Resident from years past (none of the three) had made a contribution! Many Attending Physicians didn't make a contribution! Even my office mate who brags about his million dollar house in Long Island didn't make a contribution!

WTF?!

I KNOW most of us aren't out there doing the fight, sitting in on contentious discussions with state officials, but KNOW THAT MONEY TALKS!

It's the shame of our political system, but it is the way it is.

The biggest disappointment of my generation is that we were NEVER politically active, or cared to be. The baby-boomers, on their way out now, managed to protect what they did for themselves, not really giving a crap about the generations to follow- us.

So, make no mistake, we are in the fight of our lives! All you guys who brag about what you drive and what you make, will be like the foolios on Wall Street.

Protect what matters- our Political voice. God, we're really F'd I think in my opinion, because most of us just yap about CRNAs etc., in the lounge or whatever, but don't do ****.

The letter I received from the ASA after my PAC contribution pointed out that although LESS Anesthesiologists contributed this year (so far) more actual money was raised compared to last year at this time.

I am proud to do my part and contribute to our PACs. That my friends is the best way we can hold the bloodsuckers at bay.

I have donated and are currently encouraging (kicking) my colleagues' asses to donate. It is a neverending fight but it has to be done. It amazes me that people just don't get it. They need the **** beat out of them to get it.

It's your duty and obligation to the profession that puts food on your plate.

Inroads to YOUR profession are being made.....I know when you are comfortable, it is easy to let your guard down.....you should NEVER be that comfortable.

I'm only a student, but I know that even my $20 help. Cmon guys and gals!

Couldn't agree more. I threw in my $20 as well (hey, what's $20 when you are paying $48,000/year in tuition?). Last I checked, there were 40,000 anesthesiologists:

40K x $20 = $800,000.

Plus, something tells me that attendings can probably spare a little more than $20.
