Hey Guys, I am a third year currently from UCI and my first two years i wasnt too dedicated academically and averaged about a 3.0 gpa. However, i did alot of extracurriculars and reseach, etc.. unrelevant currently. Now since this summer i have been averaging about a 3.7. I am on an upward climb and i have two more years because i am applying in june of my 4th instead of my 3rd. I realize i still have time to raise my average... question is how much is it posisble to raise with two years of 3.0?

Next year i plan on taking community college night classes to retake easy bio classes that i took first year and earned C's 😡
The other question i have... is this worth it as well as how is this looked upon by adcoms? Thanks for all your support and help! 😎

improvement is always worth it and schools look favorably at an upward trend. however some schools average the two grades so you'll end up with a B; others count it twice as grades but not for credit. Check out how much it can effect your GPA. good luck.

Suppose from winter quarter 2006 till winter quarter 2007 you continue to get A's in each class, your GPA will raise to a 3.9! Its certainly doable, only that you have to kill yourself doing the work.. Not impossible! :luck:

I'm kind of in your boat...i averaged about a 3.2 for three years; in my fourth currently but changed my major last year so i need a few more years...i would say that as long as you're above a 3.0 if you show a positive trend from here on, you'll be good to go...your gpa will rise but there is a point where to get a 3.5 cum persay, if you had a 3.0 for 45 credits, you'd have to attain all a 4.0 for 45 credits (not strong at math but I don't think i could screw that one up too much)...so it's important to take the next two or three years and do your best and focus on that gpa...in my case if I do really well I'll end up with around a 3.5 when I'm all done...you'll be fine. As far as the credits and grades and retakes, I don't know much about, hope this helps a bit at least with the nerves of the numbers

How is that possible? wouldn't an average 3.0 for 2 years and a 4.0 for 2 years be 3.5?

Also, study your butt off for the MCAT. If you can manage to get a very high MCAT score, adcoms may forgive a gpa that's to the lower side, esp if there is an improving trend.

If there's one thing I've learned from this forum, there's hope for all types of acceptances. We'll find our niches 👍

Do your best, keep pressing forward, and don't look back too much. No regrets...what's done is done 😀

I think you can be competitive. The trends and EC's seem great. Just don't give up.

One thing you may want to consider is taking your classes at a university versus a community college. I know it's less convenient, but I've personally been told to take university classes so that the med school admissions council knows there is a standard that they feel comfortable with.

Personally, I think one could learn a lot at a good community college, but there seems to be a bias at the med schools.

I don't think that's really possible. The OP is a third year and will therefore only be taking classes through spring of 2006. Assumming that the OP pulled off all A's until he graduates, the best GPA he could pull off is a 3.5 (also assuming that he takes the same number of units in his last two years that he did during his first two years.

To Irvin: you will be fine if you can continually get good grades throughout the rest of your time at UCI and raise your GPA to 3.4 or 3.5-ish. You will also need to do well on the MCAT. I am not sure how the night classes will be looked upon by adcoms, but it shows initiative and that you are committed to achieving your goal. Good luck to you! :luck:
