I've already been accepted into an optometry school for the next year. I'm in the process of registering for my next semester classes and was wondering if anyone has any input on whether A&P 2 or Biochem 1 would be more helpful for optometry school? I have already taken A&P 1 last year. Thank you!

Maybe check out the curriculum for the first 3 years and decide from there. I believe they make u take 4 quarters worth of physiology (not just general), 2 quarters for anatomy, and I THINKKKKK 2 quarters of biochem. So I guess if you haven't taken biochem, it would definitely be more beneficial if you've already taken anatomy and physiology (althougth there's A LOT of physiology). Whatever your strengths are though... it really depends.

I would take anatomy, since it's alot of memorization and you can get an early head start. But thats just my opinion.

seriously if you have never taken a biochem course take it- its killer well at least at my university they made it that way- its smart to take biochem because if you can do that you can handle a lot of harder courses because biochem is pretty tricky in that you have to logic out pathways, memorize and understand and then apply that to real situations and think outside the box

Definitely A&P. The more the better. There are so many A&P concepts that have popped up over and over again from what I've learned in undergrad A&P. You'll see those concepts in optometry school A&P, neurophys, ocular anatomy, ocular physiology, ocular disease...the list goes on.

I took a n p 2 and it was not bad at all, so I would recommend that. I didn't know you could take a n p inplace of bio.

i haven't taken an a&p but i took biochem and i found that it was very helpful. it helped me understand a lot of concepts that i didn't quite get in biology. i'm sure both will help but if you've already taken an anatomy course then i would suggest taking biochem. isn't biochem required for most schools anyway?

biochem!! biochem!!

thanks everyone, I decided to go with biochem since it goes along better with my work schedule also..by the way, SUNY doesn't req. A/P or biochem. I just wanted to take one in my last semester to prep. me for next year.. Thanks again!
