Hi, I am a pre-dental student and am just curious about what exactly 'shadowing' is.
I've been observing what a dentist is curing her patients at her office and sometimes helps her like a nurse. Is that what you people have been doing? Because one of my buddies told me that what he did at a dentist's office was cleaning a bathroom and taking care of trash and stuff.. It sounded more like volunteering rather. He told me that shadowing is volunteering at a dentist office. Is he right?

p.s. sorry for starting too many threads.. I think this website is such an awesome site, so I've kept asking.

As the name entails, you are supposed to stand in the shadow of the Dentist and observe them working. This is supposed to give you an idea whether or not Dentistry is the correct field for you.

Taking out the trash will only let you know if you want to be a garbage collector in the future. 😀

You basically observe the procedures the dentist is doing and he or she will let you know what exactly what is going on, the treatment options, procedures, etc. It will give you the sense of the daily practice of a dentist and help you decide if dentistry is really something you want to pursue. Never did I have to take out the trash or anything of that nature.
