Hey guys,
I was checking out the ABOOG and AOBOG websites and came across a listing for subspecialy exams. They claim to have certification for REI, MFM, and GynOnc. Is that new? Has anyone ever heard of AOA REI fellowships? In the application it asks for "REC/AOA or ACGME approval of subspecialty program, or AOA waiver of such approval." Can anyone shed some light on this one?
Here's the link to the site: http://www.aobog.org/subspecexam.htm

Here's the app with requirements: http://www.aobog.org/Subspec Format Instructions For Preparation of Logs.pdf

Thanks.

Well, the attendings at my school never heard of such a thing either so I did some recon and wrote to the AOBOG. Here's the reply:

At the present time there are no osteopathic fellowships in RE. All osteopathic physicians, therefore, must take an allopathic fellowship and if it is ACGME approved, they can obtain certification through the AOBOG. If you would like to discuss this further, please call our office and speak with Dr. Bonanno directly. (708-755-2490)

Now, call me crazy... but REI fellowships all require allopathic residencies to be accepted & they themselves are allopathic. Why would anyone want AOBOG certification if they are not even ABOOG certified? Especially if the don't offer any fellowships? Oh, and I did ask them if any DO REI fellowships were in the works... I guess I have to call. Maybe some other time.
