When the interview asks me on what I plan to become, is it okay to answer that I just want to serve the rural community and have absolutely nothing to do with research. Mayo is very research intensive. Do I have a chance of getting in by saying something like that?

I could've sworn there was a topic about this earlier, but I can't seem to find it. Mayo takes students with all sorts of interests. If rural medicine is your bag, by all means talk about it! I'm sure you'll do fine! Good luck on the interview! Is this the phone one or the on-site? If it's on-site, I look forward to seeing ya!

Whatever you do just tell the truth. If you sound fake everyone will pick that up.

Mayo is not as research intensive as you might think. Yes we have a required research quarter but that is more to buff applications and to teach the research process than make us all researchers. The school is very much into primary care so I am sure they would be happy to hear that rural medicine is your thing.

Good luck.
