What color dress shirt did you wear for your interview(s)?

And what type of response did it elicit (if any) from your interviewer?

I wore a blue shirt to some and a green shirt to the others (with a suit of course). I never had any response. My wife just bought me a pink dress shirt, I don't think I have the brass to pull that off on an interview.

I wore a white shirt with a light blue tie which wasn't plain and of course a black suit. For interviews you need to avoid anything flashy and questionable while some interviewers might like it, there is a good chance that the rest won't so you can't risk! White shirt is the best because it goes with any suit of dark color and matching a tie is very easy. Just avoid a red tie!

👍 If a color so easily sways your concept of 'masculinity' then you're not as secure in your identity as you would like to believe. Pink is alright and I see it a lot on men on the east coast.

Since you guys were all kind enough to share your colors, I'll be wearing a light green shirt with a dark blue tie with green stripes to go with my really dark blue suit. I know green isn't as sexy as pink but I have a blue/green tie and not a blue/pink one 🙁

Is it safe to say that my green appearance won't offend my interviewer? Cause I'd hate to be the guy that gets remembered cause of my shirt and not my words. 😎

I wore a light green shirt at one of my interviewers. Didn't seem to make any difference to the interviewer. Then again... I haven't gotten any acceptances yet. 🙁

I wore a shiny jacket with one of those collarless shirts and parachute pants. I would also suggest cleaning up your neckline a bit too. I got some lines in the side of my head, trimmed my goatee, and used a little extra soul glow. Remember the movie Risky Business? Keep the sunglasses on while you're inside. This gives the "laid back cool headed" look they want.

EyeAmm, I wore a dark blue suit, a sky blue shirt, and a white tie with thin blue stripes on it. I did feel like I stood out among the black suits and white shirts, but Im not sure if that helped me or not. I got in but I like to think that it wasn't because of my choice taste in style that I got into dental school.

Blue and green would certainly constitute a good set color combination. You'll be fine with this selection. 👍 👍

Was I at that interview too??? I remember a guy wearing a hot pink shirt but i doubt the director at that school would comment on such things. Do you remember what color i was wearing?? ... baby blue, tan, white? dark blue maybe?? cant remember myself (even though i was complimented on the tie ... and i cant remember which one that was either!!)

Is a brown suit no good? I have this well fitting brown suit that is really my only decent suit. Its not like mud brown but more of a light brown...pretty professional looking I think. Blue/black suits don't go good for those of us with light complexion....or at least not on me.

I have absolutely no fashion sense, I just wear whatever the hell my wife picks out for me. Honestly if she would let me I'd do the whole Seth Brundle thing from The Fly and just have 7 sets of the same outfit. That or wear coveralls with the sleeves torn off all the time.

Look, if you really want to impress the adcoms all I can say is this: Go with a bow tie. I mean sure the bow tie signifies dork, pansy, and rich bastard, and sure maybe people will confuse you for that douche bag Tucker Carlson, and yeah it's true that most serial killers wear them... and uh.... was I going somewhere with this.
Oh yeah, at least you will stick out from everyone else. Especially if it's pink.

Being that a lot of dental professors have served in the military or are of a very conservative persuasion (at least in my experience) I wanted to look as clean-cut and conservative as possible. I stuck to a plain black suit (no striping, etc) with a white (highly starched) shirt. I don't think it matters as much what kind of tie you chose, as long it isn't too distracting. No one said anything about my appearance- but I think that's the point. You really shouldn't be relying on your keen fashion sense to get you into dental school because tastes really vary.
