A question for NOVA students!

This forum made possible through the generous support of
SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I'm not positive but I think NOVA students can't give free vision screenings due to some legal issues they encountered in the past. If it's supervised with an OD, it may be possible.

That's what I THINK I heard at one of the club meetings. I'm not in a lotta clubs yet, so i dunno about local stuff. We have a community outreach director, but that seems to be for OD students only...sorry. Try calling the eye clinic to see if they have any programs set up to volunteer. You can find their email or number on the nova website somewhere.

Nova has temporarily stopped the formalized vision screenings as part of our community outreach course due to legal reason as stated previously. However, as a student at Nova, we are required to complete 10 hours of community service each year. As such, there are plenty of opportunities promoted by the school, the HPD itself, clubs, teachers, and the community to help out at various health fairs and vision related events, including giving vision screenings, which I have done (and assisting with yoga for the blind...my personal favorite 😀)

You should talk with the community outreach faculty member. I am sure she would be thrilled by your enthusiasm.
