Which coagulation system is activated when blood is drawn and placed in a glass tube? Is it intrinsic because it's "intrinsic" to the blood and not dependent on "extrinsic" factors like tissue thromboplastin?

Yes. Glass/plastic/etc activate the intrinsic pathway. Though wikipedia's suggesting the "intrinsic" pathway name has been changed to "Contact activation" pathway.

This made me think: I'm finishing my first year, and we haven't spent more than 15 minutes on coagulation and clotting all year in all classes added together. What's the big secret they're keeping from us?! 😕
