Hi everyone
I do not want to this thread to sound like one of those stupid pre-med "do I have a chance" discussions, but as third year student and with the thoughts of the match a year ahead of me I want to know what some of you guys think about a DO med student getting a path residency. I DO NOT want to do primary care nor do I buy into to "use OMM with everything" osteopathic propaganda that is taught in school. I have known since I first went into school Path is the place for me. I worked as an lab assistant for 3 years in a hospital as well as interacting the staff pathologists on a daily basis. I also spent a week in Eastern Europe assisting with a forensic pathologist do autopsies and other work. I have taken USMLE Step 1 nor plan to, but I did ok on COMLEX 1. My grades have been good ~3.7 and I have some good LOR lined up 2 of which are from pathologists and other from a IM doc. I read the FAQ questions about what makes a competitive versus a long-shot candidate and I am just wondering if I even fall into one those two areas. Is the lack of USMLE scores, having no research or publications or just being from a DO school going to hurt me? I have had a number of attending's tell me that I do not have much of a chance and to consider something else. I have met a DO pathologist, but my relationship with him was only a handshake and introduction. Anyways tell me what you guys think. Congrats to all the 4th years who have matched and to everyone else have a good one. Thanks🙂
