** Note: I posted a similar message on mentor forums, but wanted to post a copy here as well**
About me: I'm a 27 year old who has a dual BS in both biology and chemistry and an MS in Chemistry. My GPA's in both undergraduate/graduate studies was in the 3.2-3.4 range.
My Dilemna: It took me a bit longer to realize my passion and desire in life, but I finally know that I want to go into healthcare. I have alot of research background coming into this decision, and although I enjoyed my research, I just wanted to have more people contact (If that makes sense). As such, I began to look into the healthcare industry and talk to many friends and colleagues (med students, PT, DO, etc...). I liked what I heard initially from a PT friend about the DPT program and the flexibility it offered in terms of jobs (hospital, homecare, teaching, own practice, etc...). I volunteered in the PT department at the local clinic and I generally enjoyed the work the PT's did. I applied to a DPT program and I just heard back that I was accepted and I have 1 week to accept the offer to start this summer. During this time, I've really started to hunt the web and really look at the program (part of my research was reading some of the posts by health are professionals on this forum). I now find myself divided again between MD and PT. I'm a bit worried that I may decide to do MD at this stage, but there is no guarantee that I'd get into a medical program and I might be throwing away a good opportunity to goto DPT school. I'm wondering if any individuals that browse this forum might be able to shed some light on my dilemna. I'd really appreciate any advice/thoughts that are offered. I know ultiamtely it becomes a question of "What do you really want?", but it's hard to really decide that at this junction, and with only 1 week to decide, it's even worse.
Thank you for your time.
