Hello All,
I have a about a year left in the Navy and was wondering if a second Master's (Maybe a MPH) would help my chances of getting into medical school. In my four and half years of active duty I have finished my B.S in Finance (3.8) GPA, finished strong in my MBA (3.94), and now am finishing my second B.S in Psychology (4.0) (Graduate in May). My uGPA is still a little low at 3.5 and my sGPA is lower at 3.4, but I plan on taking about 60 more credits in the Bio track when I get out which will help raise both those to an acceptable level. I just want to do them in person so I can get the hands on experience and show the adcoms I can handle the rigor of traditional classes.
My options are limited on what I can do because i'm in Japan and on a ship, Japan. Dr. Midlife recommended I stay away from online math and science classes so I am doing that now, but I do not wanna stop classes completely. I have been reading quite a bit into medical ethics while also upping the volunteering across multiple areas of opportunity while I have been in port. I start at the hospital volunteering in March in the ED, but that is only a few hours a week (16).
I have been considering doing an online MPH over the course of the next year to boost my chances of medical school. I know I could finish it before I get out if I put my mind to it. I know master's only count as an EC, but I really want to blow the adcoms away and not rely on my military background like I see a lot people trying to do. My volunteer activities (not military related) right now include:
Active Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (Civilian and Military)
Red Cross (mentoring, teaching, educational assistance, community work, ect.)
Education Office Volunteer
Hospital Volunteer (Starts in March, CNA type duties)
Thanks guys for all the help so far. Looking forward to more awesome advice.
