These recommendations that follow are a step-by-step guide to save the cost of a hotel room while interviewing. Disclaimer: This only works if driving to the interview.

1. Shave head so that hair management on interview day is not an issue.
2. Pack car with LOTS of blankets... even if interviewing in southeast (it gets cold).
3. Indulge in several extra beers at the pre-interview social. Reason explained in step 4.
4. Sleep in car. The extra beer helps you to sleep through the cold night and the homeless guy pecking on your window. Also, most interviews occur at hospitals with parking garages. These garages help to shelter your car from the wind and rain. Especially helpful when your window is taped shut with duct tape like mine is.
5. Get up early the morning of so that you can use the hospital facilities to at least shave and brush your teeth. Showers are a plus obviously. Getting up early shouldn't be a problem. You probably slept like crap the night before anyway which you would have done in a hotel too because of pre-interview jitters.
6. Cash the $100 bill that you saved into a bunch of ones and "make it rain".

Feel free to add anymore tips.

I suggest Benadryl rather than beer. Nothing sucks more than having to get out of the car in the middle of the night to pee. You can keep a bottle in the car for that but ick:d

As for "making it rain" I had no idea what that was until Pac Man Jones's bodygurad shot all those folks at Minx.

1. isn't really applicable to 99% of applicants. and even as an avid head-shaver myself, i've grown my hair out a bit for interview season.
3. only 5/8 of my interviews so far had socials, and one of those was actually the night after the interview. but i do ignore the "nurse one beer" advice and usually have 2 or 3 (not enough for me to end up with my pants off or a lampshade on my head.)
4+5. i think sleeping in your car and shaving in the hospital bathroom might cause someone to mistake you for the aforementioned homeless guy pecking at the window
6. i would advise doing this during your sit-down with the program director

Hell, just check in to the ED the night before. Tell them you have chest pain, and when they give you nitro, say it helps. Instant obs admission. Sign out AMA in the morning after sleeping in the bed overnight.

You may wake up with a few more holes in your skin, but you'll be warmer. You'll also have the hair pulled off your chest in a few places.
