You know, I have read all the posts about people keeping their waitlist spots and holding on to multiple acceptances just to "feel good" about themselves. But I never truly believed it until I talked to a friend of mine the other day. This person has been accepted to School X for 2005 (waitlisted for 2004, the class was full by the time they interviewed). And they have been waitlisted at School Z as well. They are going to School X in 2005, that has already been decided. They want another year off to enjoy life and work. So, I said, have you called School Z and withdrawn from the waitlist. No, they said, I just want that personal affirmation of them calling me and telling me that I am accepted, then I will turn them down. And when I told this person that was the rudest thing I had ever heard, they said, Oh, you would do the same thing. Yeah right. I don't think so. This makes me so angry that someone would do that. I mean, it's not like they are waiting for financial aid or something. They already know they don't want to go to school until 2005, and they are not going to School Z....they are going to School X. Someone is going to get a phone call 2 weeks before classes start, telling them to be in Town Z in 2 weeks. How fair is that? I guess I don't really know how big a difference one person holding on to a waitlist spot is going to make, but I realize now that there are tons more people out there who do this. Geesh. Some people. It just p*sses me off. Thanks for listening.....

Cheers.

you are right that is so rediculous! maybe you should try talking to them again to get them to reconsider holding on to waitlist spots. ask your friend how they would feel if the school they are going to in '05 was to call and say they withdrew their acceptance because your friend held on to the waitlist spots, and the schools admission committee got the impression that your friend wanted to go to the waitlisted school and not the their school. now I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be a pretty sight to see. 🙄 🙄 😉
