Hi,

I'm taking 2nd semester of Organic Chemistry at the moment,
but I'm not doing too hot...
The best that I can do is get a B in the course. (if I ace everything from now on, which is going to be hard)

I received a B in the first semester course of orgo.

I have never received a W before, but I'm wondering if it would be a wiser decision to get a W and then ace orgo next year when I take it over again?
Or would it be better to just get the B?

What should I do?

Would the admissions office look down on the W in Orgo with more weight because it's orgo?

The reason I'm wondering this is because I heard Organic Chemistry is the one course the admissions committee looks at the most? And it would help if the grade on it was an A?

My science GPA isn't too great also...
I'm a sophomore year student and my frosh year overall gpa was a 3.27...

please help!

they might question you about it but a W shouldnt really hurt you. a B isnt that bad anyway, if you're around a B right now i'm sure you can bring that up with some more effort.

Ws are usually for quarters when there is a family emergency?

did something happen this quarter?

anyways i dont think a few Ws will hurt your application too much.

but it sounds like you need to be hitting the books more...........

edit: you dont need to tell us if anything happened. just remember to explain it on your application why you did poorly this quarter if something did happen.

nothing happened.

honestly, I procrastinated...

If the class were to end now, I have a C in the class.

It will be very hard for me to get even a B in the class... But it's doable.

But would it be better to settle for the B? or get a W and then ace it next time?

i am not exactly sure how Ws work, but wouldnt a W push you back 1 quarter?

the decision is really up to you. i personally didnt want to take any Ws because i was too lazy to retake the class........

Go for the B! You don't want to have to take the entire course over again when you could be taking something else. A B in orgo is really good!

If you can, get a B and balance it out by destroying other upper division science classes.

In my opinion, you don't need to retake ochem if you got B's, and you can still do well on the ochem section of the DAT.

W without a legit explanation = F

If you're going to get a D or F, withdrawing might be a good option (you have to retake anyway, won't hurt GPA)

If you're set on retaking, switch the class to pass/no pass grading option.

Pass grade in required class = C or better, just didn't want the class to hurt their GPA, and knew they were going to retake.

Good luck with your decision!
