I polished up my LinkedIn and made it public so that anyone googling me would find something edifying.

I would say that you should either keep your online portfolio updated and polished or delete it. If it is a good representation of you and you enjoy updating it, I would keep it and show off your creativity and other skillzzz.

I took down my online portfolio after completing it for a class, but that's because I don't have time or $$$ to maintain it...

Just curious. My university made us create websites and put our info on it (education, reflection, achievement, future, etc.) as a type of portfolio. I haven't looked at it in years, but I noticed that it is one of the first things that pops up when I google my name. It's like two years old from my freshman year, and its not bad (just kinda cheesy responses). Would updating this regularly be of any benefit of all, in any scenario? Or should I just stick to updating my linkedin (although also weird, my website pops up earlier in the search results than my linkedin does...hmm lol).
No

Several people on here have reported their LinkedIn profiles getting viewed prior to an interview, etc. There are clearly places that google you pre-interview. Either update it or take it down...

+1 to this! Have absolutely nothing about yourself on the internet won't harm you at all. Having a bunch of impressive, professional stuff about yourself on the internet could help you (or could be neutral). BUT, having questionable, unprofessional, poorly-written, out-of-date, or embarrassing stuff is likely to hurt you.
