Hey, I have a question for somebody -- Will I be able to request that my MCAT scores be sent to AACOM once I get my first set of scores? Or was I supposed to do that before now? (I took the April 2004 MCAT and am working on my app now)

Also, is the AACOMAS "grade" the same as the letter grade on my academic transcript (except for grades like A+)? My college uses the 4.0 scale.

thanks, RaDiOnut

Yes, AACOMAS grade is the same as your transcript.

You cannot send MCAT scores to any application service until they are posted online. You can then send them from the website.

Thanks OSUdoc08! Those were the answers I was hoping to hear. (I wasn't looking forward to going back and fixing all my responses!)

Okay: not to steal this thread: but the title works for what I needed too. I hate to have 50,000 thread all of aacom questions.

My question: During my senior year of high school, I took classes at my high school which were similar to ap classes. However, instead of getting AP credit for these classes, we paid per credit hour a reduced rate and got credit from the local community college (I took 15 credits total). I then transfered these to my second university where I spent 4 years. When denoting "class standing" how is this going to work? Was I a "freshman" for two years: one in high school and my actual freshman year??? That would put me at 43 credits being listed under "freshman" status. Is it okay if I do it this way?

Thanks

I would imagine your four year university would have a breakdown of the number of credits one has to define by year. My undergrad defined a freshman as 1-32 credit hours, sophomore as 33-69 credits, junior as 34-92 credits, and senior as 93 + credits, etc...you might want to check with your university undergraduate catalog, student handbook or the back of your transcripts...I can't remember when I filled out my AACOMAS but do they give such a background too?...I had three majors and was a senior for 2 years. I hope this helps.

They gave a guidlines that could be used: fr 0-32, so 31-64, jr 61-96, sr 91-completion. Then, in the next sentence they stated that if you went to a four year university and graduated in 4 years that your 1st year was fresh, 2nd soph, 3rd jr, 4th sr...sooo....still unsure of what they want.

Following the guidelines they gave you would not be so bad...If you entered your university with these 15 credits, then you had advanced standing although it is only 15 credits. How many credits did you take first semester and then second semester of your freshman year?

It is just that they have their guidlines stated in two different ways. If I go by the credit hours, I am going to be 1 semester off for the entire 4 years. I just don't know which way to go because they say two different things. I am not sure if it is just an "either or" situation or not.

When I filled out may application, I followed the credit hour guideline. I don't think that would be a problem since many people end up taking different amounts of credits in any given semester. Heck, I was a senior for 2 years. Remember that those are guidelines and it looks as if you could do either. I just went with the credit hours since many universities define academic status by the amount of credit hours one has. Perhaps you may want to email AACOMAS or talk to someone there. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you. 😳

I agree with box29. I had approximately 15 credits before I physically entered college, so I just followed the units guidlines, which I think made me claim sophomore standing before my second year in college, even though it took me a full four years to graduate. I would go with the credit guidlines by aacomas.

Thanks for your replies. I have almost all the easy stuff finished... 🙂
...now for the ps. :scared:
