So I attended the NY Multi-COM recruiting event last week just to catch anything that would be worthwhile. If I recall correctly, the representative from AACOM there that gave the presentation mentioned AACOMAS had received over 200K primary applications for the 2016 application cycle already. I believe I recall seeing a statistic that last year that AAMC recieved about 140K, and AACOM recieved 2-3x fewer than this year. Can anyone (adcoms/students) corroborate this or are numbers being fudged somewhere?

Does this make anybody a little nervous?

Are you sure they didn's say 20,000?

I think the 200,000 might come from designations. For instance I am one person but I applied to 18 schools. Thus 18 applications not 18 applicants. This is supported by the above data which says there were 180,000 designations

I agree with this. I don't think they were talking about unique applicants, only the amount of applications sent to each school. I am not sure how many D.O. schools there are, roughly 30ish, but with 20k applications sent to that many schools (obviously not everyone applies to every schools), then I could see how you could easily achieve 200k total applications.
