Hey Guys, I saw that AACOMAS opens on May 5th 2012, does that mean that we can start submitting our aacomas application taht day, or does it open later on in June for actual submission, like AMCAS? Thanks

My biggest piece of advice (especially if you have more than one college transcript) is to submit your transcript request as soon as AACOMAS opens in May. It can take a couple of weeks (depending on the time of the app. season, sometimes it's a lot faster) for your transcripts to be received and uploaded to the system and your application will not be verified unless all transcripts are in.

Good luck!

If I were retaking two classes this summer for A's, should I still submit my current transcripts in May and update the grades later on in August?

Get your transcripts in ASAP and get your LOR's in ASAP. I thought it would be cool to wait until secondaries to worry about LOR's, but I was wrong - delayed my apps by weeks.

How about one step further: submit transcripts in May, then update it after 2 retakes in the summer and 3 in the fall (therefore, update in December, but with a 0.33 GPA rise from summer?)

I would submit every time you receive a new grade. After fall semester, then again after spring then again after summer and repeat. Always update and aacomas will update your gpa and Resend a copy of your application again to schools. It also pulls ur file up again to schools for them to view.

Ofcourse its optimal to have it all done prior to submitting but if your applying the summer of your junior year or plan on continuing to take courses throughout your app year. Submitt every time you have new grades, absolutely.

My school (Purdue University) had a "red line" policy for Freshman who switched majors, basically the courses you omit will not me put into your GPA at all, but it will show that you took them on your transcript, but for no credit, and it shows a marking denoting the redline policy.

I could not find anything about if this would still count as normal course for AMCOMAS?, I know that AMCAS will count the courses as I took them despit the "red line"

They require you to list any course that you took post-high school so yes; they will count. Now, if your OFFICIAL transcript lists you grade along with a 0 in units, I suppose it would not affect your calculated GPA. However, if it is simply that those classes are not calculated in your GPA for the school, they will still be in your AACOMAS GPA. Hope that makes sense.

I have a question. So these transcripts I am supposed to be sending (I have 5...ridiculous)... who do I have them sent to? Do I have a copy of every transcript sent to my pre-health committee and they submit it to AACOMAS? Do I have them sent directly to AACOMAS? To myself? Confused about how all this works, but going to need to go ahead and request for them to be sent. If someone could walk me through it I would really appreciate it!

so i shouldn't wait until after final grades are submitted in late may before submitting a transcript?

From last year's AACOMAS application instructions:

"If you are currently enrolled in the Spring 2010 term, you may not submit your transcript(s) until those grades are posted on the transcript. Transcripts that show the Spring Term as in progress will not be verified. Do not send transcripts that do not meet this requirement; they will not meet verification requirements."

lol...I had 6 transcripts plus 1 transcript exemption 🙂

All transcripts must be sent directly to AACOMAS from your college registrar. The information bulletin is your friend 🙂

As far as getting your transcripts: just go to each respective college website to find out what the transcript request procedure is. The AACOMAS address is:

AACOMAS
1900 L Street NW, Ste 603
Washington, DC 20036

Oh perfect! Thanks so much - thats such good information. So just to clarify, should I have all of my transcripts sent to my current pre-health committee registrar and have them send them all to AACOMAS, or should I have each individual college send them to the AACOMAS address?

Thanks again!

Not certain that either strategy is an incorrect one, but I had my schools send them directly to AACOMAS. I didn't involve my University's Pre-medicine committee at all during the application process. Mostly because it's all but non-existent here.

The registrar of each college you attended must send the transcript to AACOMAS. If the transcript comes from any other office/person, it will not be valid.

Ok, I know the SDN standard response is apply early, and then just keep sending updates....as several here were told.

BUT, think about it for a minute. If you are not ready for them to review your grades, please don't submit. The reason it takes so long to get verified is all of you that intentionally submit when you are not ready. You aren't helping anyone, and you are hurting the rest of us who ARE prepared to submit once but now have to wait for them to review your transcript which is NOT ready.

Think about other people for just a second, then apply when you are actually ready..PLEASE!

Is the transcript process just like it is for AMCAS? So if I submit my application, nothing will happen until they receive the transcript right? So then I might as well wait until they get the transcript to submit my application, just in case I want to make changes to my personal statement?

Bump.

Does anybody know? I have the application ready, so this is the only thing thats holding me back from submitting just yet. Thanks for your help.

yea that's right, but i think you are better off submitting it earlier because its not automatic i dont think, the earlier u submit, the quicker it will take for them to verify your transcripts
