For anyone that has applied MD and DO, do you like using AMCAS or AACOMAS better? I like the setup of AACOMAS much better. Here are some annoying features of AMCAS--

-On AMCAS, pretty much nothing can be changed once you submit. With AACOMAS, you can submit to 1 school that doesn't screen on day 1, then edit everything on the primary in the meantime. On AMCAS, if you need more time to edit activity descriptions or personal statement, you are delaying your submission.

-Required additional "meaningful activity" description in AMCAS. On AACOMAS, you can just write about how meaningful you found an activity in its original description box or your PS/secondaries.

-AMCAS will not report a total GPA of grad + UG coursework. AACOMAS does.

-You can update your primary with new activities on AACOMAS, but not on AMCAS.

-Required contact info for every activity in AMCAS (I feel untrusted).

-easier to switch between different sections on AACOMAS.

-can add as many activites as you wish on AACOMAS. AMCAS only allows 15.

AMCAS should adapt more of AACOMAS's format.

The only thing I like better about AMCAS is that they ask you to elaborate on your 4 most significant things on your application. I feel like it does one's application an enormous benefit.

Before the whole change with the AMCAS around 2010 (correct me if I am wrong), the AMCAS did not require this. In all honesty, the requirement of contact information is just plain stupid. One of my contacts retired 2 years ago and I was a TA under him 3 years ago. How am I supposed get his current contact details from him if I only have his old email. I know that schools rarely check but the AMCAS should take into account for people we cannot keep in touch with.

I like the AACOMAS software better. I like AMCAS employees better... They are much more friendly!

AMCAS lost one of my transcripts, and after a delay of almost 3 weeks I sent a new one. Still haven't been verified. At this point I'm not even thinking about the few MD schools I applied to.

AMCAS sucks.

I like AACOMAS better because its easier to manipulate, enter classes/grades and AACOMAS gives you an uncertified GPA before you submit.
I don't like that AACOMAS personal statement is shorter in character length than AMCAS. I wish they were both the same length.
Of course, once I got my MCAT score back I just stopped with the AMCAS app...

I'm glad you brought this up. AACOMAS as a whole is much more user friendly than AMCAS. The fact that AMCAS doesn't have an unofficial GPA counter also blows (especially for those of us from multiple colleges).

Kudos to the programmers and AACOM for their great pro-student policies 👍. Always felt that AMCAS app service isn't really looking out for the students (especially with all the set backs this year).

To be honest, I just used the most recent info I had even though I knew it wasn't valid anymore (people who quit/transferred/business closed).

Same here.

The AMCAS just pretty much threw this contact information stuff without factoring in these problems. The application process is far more about making it easier for them than it is about us (I probably will be bashed for this comment but I understand that life is unfair).
