AACOMAS and foreign transcripts

Hi All!
Sorry, I just had to start this new thread since I anticipate this to be the most problematic part of my app...or not 😕. If some of you have any experience with it please shed some light. I've got my diploma in Nursing in 1989, and did 2.5 years out of 6 required in the medical school between 1986-89. did both of these at the same time (day time / night time / anytime 😱). As for my Nursing degree: I'm practicing RN in NYC for over 16 years. Of course, NYSED OP verified it back in early 1990s before issueing a license to me. but it's a pain in the arse to get anything out of the country, which I left as a refugee almost a half of my life ago (almost 18 yrs ago 🙄). And my medical school (mostly basic science stuff) was partially credited towards my undegrad degree, which BTW I did at Touro, NY. So it was evaluated on course by course basis by the agency which Touro is using for these things. Technically, both of these educations have been checked, and verified at nauseum....BUT (a really BIG one)...not by AACOMAS. I can't imagine going through the vertual he11 of getting these quite useless by now 20 y.o credits. Especially, that it had already been done before. I'd be willing to pay for another freaking degree, and I'll do 16 back flips before I hit the ground , if only I could avoid asking that country's officials for anythyng in my life ever again. Could my RN license issued by U.S government, and Touro, which is an American college which granted my B.S degree be a sufficient proof of my education? Did anybody else have same/similar problems? Please advise. I don't want to do anything stupid when I apply. Actually ROSS, and SABA (carib) accepted me with no outstanding issues. These are quite reputable school that do their stuff before they let anybody in. But AACOMAS 😕 Please, please advise.

I know I had to get my transcript from France evaluated at one of those evaluation services. But maybe if you already had it verified by an accredited company, you might be able to just request a copy of that? Because AACOMAS doesn't want the transcript, they want the american evaluation of your transcript. You might want to call them and ask and see what tehy say. It would be safer than guessing.

Thanks! If only this were true, I'd be really, really happy. Yes, all of my foreign degrees were already evaluated: my nursing degree by the comparative education department of the State licensing board, and my incomplete medical degree by Touro, NY. But AACOMAS lists, I believe, WES and GLOBE evaluation services on their website. TOURO had them listed too, but also a few others. So I had it done by another company, which was acceptable to TOURO for my undergrad. Who knows? may be AACOMAS wouldn't mind it because TOURO also have two D.O schools and the 3rd one for NY is in the making. We'll see. Thanks a lot again.

I had a lot of trouble with getting the correct foreign transcripts to AACOMAS. I definitely suggest if you have any doubts just e-mail aacomas ([email protected]); they are super super helpful and after the correct transcripts finally arrived (although making my application over a month late!!!) they made sure to expidite my file. Did you rely on those foreign transcripts for any prereqs, or they just wanted to see it? I'm planning to just re-take some of those prereqs in hopes of never again to deal with any government institions in the country of my exodus (if you know what i mean) 🙂

None of my pre-requisites were included on the foreign transcript, however as I had spent just a semester abroad they still wanted to see it because the grades were not on my undergrad transcript...i think it is for calculating your GPA's and such.

I guess my question is : Did they want to see an actual transcript from abroad, or the translation / evaluation of it by an approved service? Sorry that I'm so anal about it... It's just really hard to get anything directly sent from that country, and that was done already anyway. This transcript was evaluated and partially credited towards some of my undergrad. OH i seeee sorry!! I think they wanted the translation more than anything. I initially sent a transcript directly from the school abroad and then had to get an evaluation which was merely done by the undergraduate institution i studied abroad through..not an 'approved service.' If it has already been done I don't feel like you would have to have it done again, although I am no expert. i would def go ahead and e-mail AACOMAS to get a definite answer. The reply through e-mail is generally pretty speedy, often same day and if not then within a day or two. (I clearly spent some time e-mailing)
