Looking for someone with experience with the AACOMAS update process. Do they recalculate GPAs after verifying your new transcripts? I have a school waiting on a certain gpa to push my app along (I was told this by the admissions dean).

Just trying to figure out if I should update the school directly with fall semester grades, or wait until aacomas completes the update and send those GPAs.

Aacomas will recalculate. They can take a while this time of year. You can certainly try sending them directly to the school you’re waiting on (I did this last year with screenshots of my portal). They might accept them or might want to wait for the “official” gpa but I can’t see it reflecting badly on you to send an update.

I was in a similar situation. Definitely send the transcript to this school ASAP. I’d send one to aacomas too for the recalculation, but at this point the school has your file and knows who you are.. they don’t need aacomas to do the math for them. They want to see how you handled the class more so than what the slight gpa change now might be. So send them your new grades! Good luck.

Do schools actually bother to look at grade updates given how many applications they get each cycle?

In my case (and assuming so for OP based on what they stated) I was literally told that a decision would be made after they received grades in an outstanding semester. I got all As and subsequently got in.

In general? Depends. Probably not. I would only send in an update if you have a stellar semester and maybe some more clinical hours or a research update to go along with it. I definitely sent grade updates to school that did NOT say they were waiting on them and was rejected shortly thereafter.
