Hi All -

I was hoping someone could clarify this for me. I recently received my first II at LECOM-Erie for the last Thursday of August. On the LECOM website, it states the following:
"Matriculation Fee: $2,000
Nonrefundable fee due 30 days after receipt of acceptance. The matriculation fee is applied toward the tuition fee upon matriculation."

But on the AACOMAS official site, it states:
"Those accepted prior to November 15 will have until December 14" to pay the matriculation fee to the D.O. School.

Does this mean that LECOM is an exception and does not abide by AACOMAS traffic guidelines? Could someone then also clarify what LECOM means by finding out about your admission's decision early OR late (i.e., what are those dates, and would I look bad not choosing the earlier date)?

At first glance, I do like the school. However, since it is still early in the cycle, I'd like to keep my options open for other schools as long as I possibly can without paying the steep matriculation fee.

Thanks!! 🙂

You can choose to waive your right and get an earlier decision, or you can choose to stick to AACOMAS guidelines and get your decision 30 days before the deadline. Source:interviewed there

I'm wondering the same about ICOM. They have a 30 day deadline for any time prior to January.

So, is there any penalty for the earlier decision? I.e., does the deposit need to be put down earlier than 30 days if that's the case, or do we have until Dec. 14th as suggested by the AACOMAS guidelines, if accepted before Nov. 15th?

If you choose earlier decision you waive your right to have until Dec. 14th to submit your deposit, and have to submit the initial deposit of $1500 30 days after finding out the decision (which should be disseminated by Sept. 30th).

This is for next cycle, but just for future reference: if you're a low-income student on Medicaid, do you usually get a financial aid / scholarship package that comes with the acceptance? Do they expect us to get money from a loan shark or payday lender??

Health Insurance cost is built into the CoA

Magus, that's not quite what I meant. What I meant is, how do they expect you to pay this deposit before you even receive any loan disbursements if you're a low-income student?
Find someone to loan you the money, or save it up. Low income students are handicapped by this process, unfortunately. Keep in mind that there are travel costs for interviews as well.

You said that you won't be applying until next cycle, so whenever you apply for your spring loans, take out however much you think you'll need for applying so that way you won't have an issue. i.e. it'll probably be around 5-6k

Whichever loans you can get that have the least interest on them. I'm using a mixture of types of loans currently for my undergrad debt. I also worked a ton over the previous summer and spring semester to save up enough to pay for a lot of it that way.
