Hello everyone,

Has anyone applied to the AAD Diversity Mentorship program in the past as a second-year medical student? I have heard from upperclassman it may be a good idea to apply this year, especially since acceptance is not gauraunteed, and some 3rd years who applied felt rushed with having to fit in a month before ERAS to schedule this experience.

However, I am kind of confused how this works. It reads: "The mentorship is a one-month program that consists of a full-time, 40-hour work week for four weeks for a total of about 160 hours of experience. Medical students commonly participate in this program in the summer months, but it must be complete by Dec. 1. The mentorship may be completed in a choice of environments, such as a medical center, hospital, or private practice. A $1,500 grant will be awarded during time of mentorship to assist with travel and living expenses."

However, my third year is my core clerkship rotations. I don't honestly know when between January 1st to December 31st 2026 I would have 4 weeks off, as core clerkships don't really allow for time off. I might be able to take Step 1 early and use 4 weeks post-Step to do this? But I don't want to be setting my Step date in stone so soon.

Anyone have thoughts? Specifically students who have applied to this before (esp as M2s?)
