Have any current residents done this program or know a lot about it?

Would this be something worthwhile to do early 4th year (Aug or Sep, with a derm rotation the other month)? If I do apply and get it I would most likely do research.

You can do this program at any time and you don't have to wait until your fourth year. In fact, it would be nice if you could do this earlier than later (like first or second year) so that you can learn more about dermatology early and have an earlier mentor/contact in the field.

I haven't heard of anyone doing it in their fourth year but I'm sure there are many who do it then too so I can't really add much along those lines.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a current third year and won't have the time to do it until 4th year. I have a relatively late interest in derm so I'm just trying to get as many opportunities/contacts as I can

Derm-related awards, especially from AAD, are always worth it.

It'd be very difficult to fund any sort of bench research using the $1000 grant. Use it toward shadowing a well-respected derm in a clinic setting, in a different metropolitan area of the country from where you are currently attending school. This should help you get several more interviews - and shows you are willing to be mobile. It's also all about networking. Research and being stuck in a lab = little to no chance to get out and meet other derms.
