for the 2004 cycle, 4392 students enrolled in a dental school.
so since no dental schools opened or closed since then and class sizes don't change much year to year, i think it is safe to assume about 4500 students will enroll this year... meaning about half of the students who apply get in. that's a pretty good ratio if you ask me.
also, for the 2004 cycle, the average undergraduate gpa of all enrolled students was 3.41. the average science gpa was 3.31. the average dat academic average was 18.76, and the average pat was 17.77.
we all suspect these numbers have risen for the 2005 cycle, but we won't know by how much for some number of months.
by the way, i did omit stats from meharry, howard, and puerto rico.
if you include these schools, the number of enrolled students rises to almost 4600.
I am waitlisted at UNLV and Creighton. I just interviewed with USC and am keeping my fingers crossed for a late interview at Dalhousie. I am a living example of why you should apply early! My choices were limited--I was unable to apply to many of my top schools since I missed their deadlines--and many of those that I was able to apply to were already full.

Why would you plan to disadvantage yourself like that? You don't have to have all of your courses done by then nor do you have to have your DAT submitted to apply?
