AADSAS and then more money??

I was just looking at the adea website https://aadsas.adea.org/aadsas2007/supplemental/ins_designations_supp.htm

It has the list of all the schools and the contact info and what is required by each school.

My question is--Most of them say that at the same time as applying to AADSAS you have to send in application money directly to the school, among other things... Is this correct?

Can someone look at the page and let me know what the deal is...because I thought that you pay aadsas to apply to the schools or do you just have to pay THAT much more to apply!?

You also have to pay the application fee for each shool.

Haha... these costs are just the beginning. Aadsas is the primary application only...and you are charged a primary fee. Each school has a secondary application which requires that secondary fee you saw there ($60-$75) per school. Then there's transcript fees because you will need to send transcripts to certain schools that request them separately. Then there are flight fees to get yourself to the interviews and hotel fees once your at the location of the school. Then there are fees for certifying your mail and making sure it gets to each school...fees fees fees. I would budget $2000-$3000 depending on how many schools you apply to and how many you intend to interview at.

Look at the list of schools you are applying to, this can be found on the AADSAS web site. Some will want you to mail them the money when you submit your application (i.e. UoP, Coumbia, Pitt, USC,...). While others will tell you to wait until they contact you (Temple, Colorado, ...).

When you mail them the check, put down your AADSAS application number on your check, and you typically make the check out to the school. Mail it to the address listed for that school. It is also a good idea to include a note card with your name, AADSAS number, phone number and address.

Yep it sucks how much money you need to put out for applications.

There are some discrepancies in the AADSAS list of schools and when to mail money/forms and the schools actual website (on the to send money at same time as AADSAS or if someone contacts you). I was checking both just to make sure and a few schools had conflicting information, ie AADSAS would say mail once the school contacts you while that particular schools website says to mail the money right away.

I would assume in this situation the right thing to do would be call the school and see what is exactly correct so you have the money in so they can proceed to review your application (or so that you don't waste money and send it in when you shouldn't have) ? You would think all schools would want money...free money regardless...

Unbelievable...send AADSAS money, then send everyone else money too! Why not just bypass AADSAS and send in apps to each individual school? Oh wait...I don't have enough time to do that...they have us where they want us!

Ya. this does suck. but some schools just want their own copies.
So go ask the people you had write a LOR for another copy to be mailed to the schools that want them.

You are paying AADSAS for the privilege of applying to dental school.
You pay AADSAS to put together your application and mail it out, while you pay the schools to look at your application. You have to pay both fees or you dont get to apply or have your application reviewed.

I checked some school's websites that asked for LOR's and the ones I saw all specifically stated that LOR's should only be sent through AADSAS. There was the same issue with transcripts; the AADSAS link says some schools want transcripts but the school websites say the transcripts should only be sent through AADSAS unless specified by an adcom member.
