I noticed that there's a section to describe your childhood residence, limit 250 characters, see below. It seems like something that should be in the disadvantaged status section yet is separate from it.

What if I grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood, do I just write about it? Seems like kind of an odd section. It's not required but I also don't want to leave anything out.

Like you said, it's not required. I think it's really meant for applicants from a rural or low socioeconomic area. At best, Adcoms will ignore your middle class residency. At worst, they'll choose someone who grew up in a worse area than you.

IMO, I would leave it blank.

I grew up in a small town and want to practice in a small town. I would personally use that area to describe that aspect, but it wasn't a low-income area, solid, middle to upper middle class rural town. 250 characters is not a lot so put what you can about town size or whatever.

Can I send the application and later write the essay for that part?
