will someone remind me how the process works again...I'm a reapplicant and I forgot...

So once the online app comes out, we submit it online and our recommendation stuff (from our prehealth office) is sent to aadsas from their office, right? If I already took the DAT, do I call them again and tell them to send my scores...I also plan on retaking them this summer so I should put that on the application right? One test date w/my previous scores and another future test date. I know AADSAS doesn't accept the application until June 1st, so should I wait till like May 25th to send a letter to my schools requesting my transcript be sent? Also, when I submit everything to AADSAS, some schools also want somethings...can I send that like a week after or does it have to be that same day you submit your aadsas stuff? Anyway, sorry for the annoying questions, but I had like an extra 15mins at school and started wondering...thanks 🙂

simseema,

the AADSAS application doesn't become available till june 1st of the preceding year for admissions. personally, i had requested transcripts and letters of recommendations well in advance prior to june 1st; the items were sent to me at my home address. you can request letters of recommendation from professors and have them returned to you in a signed and sealed envelope. my professors were real nice about it and they sent me 10 copies of each... just in case AADSAS lost them and i could then easily forward them to each individual school without much delay.

so i submitted my application on-line the second week in july, and sent out transcripts and letters of recommendation to AADSAS via FED-EX the same day. i would suggest requesting that your official DAT scores to be re-sent even though you had applied previously. i'm a cautious gal so i don't like to take unneccesary risks. 😛

as for retaking the DAT, there is a section on the AADSAS application that will ask whether you will be taking the DAT again, and you must enter the expected date.

in any case, much luck to you this time around and keep us all posted!

How exactly do the letters of Rec work?
You send it to AADSAS and they give it to your schools that you want?
What if you apply to 20 schools? Does that mean your proff has to write you 20 letters of recc?
or does the AADSAS just photocopy it and give it to the schools?
Also, what do you do wiht letters that are written by others aside from health professors (eg, dentists, etc)

Send ALL letters to AADSAS and they will photocopy! No need to have your recommendators write or print 50 copies! But if they do write or print 50 copies for you, then you're lucky!

😎

Another thing you might consider since for some AADSAS takes too long and has messed things up in the past (although no where as bad as AMCAS) is to have your school send them. My undergrad school has an office where we can store all our letters and then request to have them sent wherever we want. It bypasses AADSAS and potential pitfalls there. But no matter what you do, make sure you call all the schools periodically to confirm that they have everything and that your file is complete.

I didn't have any problems with AADSAS at all. However with the letter of recommendations, you must make sure that they meet the requirements of all of the schools you are going to apply to. If not, you will be running around getting another science professor, dentist, etc. to give you a rec. to be send directly from you. Oh yeah, and there is the infamous, we have your letters or recs., but we need them to fill out our "special" forms. Then you have to track people down again, and beg them to complete another form. Trust me, do your homework up front on who needs what before you send letters of rec. whether it be AADSAS or not.

Ok, my prehealth office sends my recommendations, after he writes a composite letter (quoting the other recs)...so far in the office, I have rec's from an organic prof, physics prof, bio prof, psych prof, mentoring office lady, and a dentist...hope that'll do...although I'm going to TRY and get some more... 🙂

oh, and for those of you who know my story, I got back my organic II test today and I got an A!!! whoo hooo!!!! now I'm telling myself, "good job, but you gotta keep it up...don't mess this up"... 🙄

anyone want to share anymore AADSAS tips or stories? Anyone who's already done w/the process want to give out any pointers? 😀

It has a list of schools and everything they require and when. Some want a picture of you sent to them right when you submit your AADSAS stuff. Others want it after they contact you. Get the details for the schools you want to apply to and make a time line.
Also at the bottom of that document there is a list of classes and the AADSAS code. Get a copy of your transcript and match the classes you took to the proper codes and write them all down. It will save you time later.
AADSAS and DAT stuff comes from two different offices, make sure that you DAT scores got sent to the right schools. Also, call the schools and make sure they #1 received it and #2 it is in your file.
Something that people keep asking, "You CAN send your AADSAS WITHOUT your DAT scores." It might be a good idea to drop a note to the schools you are applying to and let them know you plan on taking or retaking it and when.
When you get your AADSAS information sheet to check in the mail....check it....carefully. Check to see that it is going to all the schools you want to apply to (this is in the upper right hand corner of the sheet).

APPLY EARLY!!! Look at my message about when to apply, there are some good comments/stories about this.

You can submit your AADSAS without your letters of rec, just make sure that your letters get to all the schools. Check this link on the FAQ: <a href="http://www.adea.org/AADSAS/FAQs/official_documents.htm" target="_blank">http://www.adea.org/AADSAS/FAQs/official_documents.htm</a>

Most important: YOU make sure that YOUR application is complete AND received at each school. In most cases they WILL NOT tell you if you are missing anything.

I will now STOP emphasizing EVERYTHING. BTW great question. It is good to see this board used for fielding questions and concerns. Keep it up!
