My GPA went down from 3.3 to around 3.18 after their calculation... 🙁
I did get some C's and D's during my first 2 years, but this year I got a 3.92/4.0/4.0 with upper division science classes (did retake some classes and got A's). 3.3 is acceptable for admission but 3.18 isn't at all. I go to UCLA if that really matters. Do I even have a shot? I can realistically score 21-22 on the DAT.
Thanks in advance.

Did you not count the original grades for the classes you retook? I have heard that schools do look at strong upward trends which you have. Do well on the DAT and I think you still have a good chance. Just my opinion, I can't speak for any dental schools.

Good luck

I went to UCLA too... and YES it matters. I know others will say it does not, but, it is clear on many school's websites that they consider the "rigor of the undergraduate major and institution." Meaning, they know that some schools are more difficult (to obtain a high GPA) than others.

I know that others on here get really upset about these statements... But, after taking undergrad classes at UCLA and re-taking the same undergrad classes at another major university during my master's (to help refresh me for the DAT), the difference in difficulty was laughable. They same material was taught... but how we had to demonstrate knowledge of that material was night and day. And no, it was not because I had taken the classes before that made it easy... It was the fact that we were tested to see if we could read a book and come to class rather than testing understanding and application. There is a HUGE difference.

And I would imagine that dental schools understand that.

Sorry for the off-topic rant. 😎

That's somewhat relieving to hear. Do you think it's a bad idea to ask the weight of undergraduate institutional rigor that factors into admission decisions at interviews (just out of curiosity)?

You do have a shot, but you are going to need to absolutely destroy the DATs to have a competitive shot. Don't just aim for 21-22, aim for 26+. Then we're talking straight business.👍

I went to one of the UCLA class to add as concurrent student. Oh boy, I didn't go the following ones.
