Hello all!

First of all I would just love to say how helpful it has been reading all of the posts on this board. It has truly enlightened me in many ways. 😀

I am a reapplicant to dental school. Last year, I didn't know much about dental school these days, and applied very late (around november!) with a weak GPA (3.2 overall and a 2.98 science) but pretty solid DATs (20/20/18). Obviously, I am struggling. I was rejected from most of the schools I applied to, havent heard back from NYU still. 🙁

This year, I pulled up my GPA to a 3.42 with around a 3.2 science. However, I am concerned with AADSAS GPAs! My AADSAS GPA is a 3.29 overall, with a 3.16 science! And that w/o calculation pulls me down even further (a 3.05 science and a 2.96 BCP). Which stats do dental schools look at? What do you guys think are my chances of getting in this year, being that I applied in may this time with decent EC activities and shadowing and such (my dad is even a dentist)?

Any feedback on this AADSAS gpa stuff would help, as would any insight into my chances. I applied to all reasonable schools, no UPENNs or Harvards this time. Thanks guys!

Well, they look at the whole package, but grades and DAT are probably most important. But they also look at grade improvement. My AADSAS GPA was 3.21, with a Science GPA of 2.99. Most of my better grades were in the last 2.5 years of college. My DAT was 23/23/21. I got into 6 schools, including my top two choices, and still had more interview offers that I didn't go to. So it's definitely doable on your GPA. Just make sure you have some decent extracurr. and shadowing experience, and apply early!! Like RIGHT NOW!
