My university uses a numeric scale but in case letter grades are needed, it recommends a 3.6-4.0 as an A, 3.0-3.5 is a B, etc.

This is problematic for me because, for example, last semester I earned a 3.7, 3.4, and a 3.3. If my university just reports those 3.4 and 3.3 as a 3.0 my GPA will down significantly. Also, the semester before that I earned 2 3.1 and a 3.3. Again, all 3 of those will go down to a 3.0.

If AADSAS converts the numeric grade to a letter grade according to their scale, all 3.1s become 3.333, which would help a lot.

Does anyone have any advice, or really thinks that AADSAS will use letter grades from a university which uses no +s or -s?

From their website. The conversion tables should help answer some questions. http://www.adea.org/AADSASapp/Instructions/coursework.aspx

AADSAS won't care about your school's guidelines. It follows their own scales shown. Your school will report your earned grades on your official transcript. That's it.

You should also consider ordering an official transcript for yourself to see what it contains.

Pretty sure it just removes the +/-. SO B+/B/B- are all a 3.0

They do not. AADSAS uses +s and -s. My university does not. so a difference between a 3.5 and a 3.6 becomes the difference between a 3.0 and a 4.0.

ICURunning,

AADSAS says that if no letter grade is received, they will convert the numeric grade according to the table that you sent. I guess that means a letter grade is not absolutely necessary. My university says it will send letter grades if they are absolutely necessary. Maybe I can talk to them about only sending the numeric grades? I can still apply to dental school with a 3.4 overall GPA if that's the case, now I know to get at least a 3.6 in every class for the next 3 semesters 🙁...

Did you look at Table 2 in my link?
It has your type of grading on it and the respective AADSAS converted grades and quality points.

In your first post you wrote that last semester you "earned a 3.7, 3.4, and a 3.3." When you apply, AADSAS will convert these three grades into A-, AB, and B+, respectively as an example.

I did see the table. AADSAS prefers school letter grades though. So if my school says a 3.5 is a B then that 3.5 becomes a 3.0. But my school only sends letter grades if they're necessary. If AADSAS has no letter grades, they just go by numeric grades according to table 2 that you mentioned.

Question: AADSAS only knows my grades through my official transcripts, correct? My official transcripts will have no letter grades, only numerical ones (3.7, 3.4, etc. see transcript), so they will have no choice but to use the numerical grade conversion, correct? Or is there another way for AADSAS to get letter grades?

Correct. When you apply you write down your coursework and grades, as is, per your transcripts. You, yourself, will follow the grade conversion table and convert it to AADSAS standards. you'll see it when the application opens up. Its a drop-down box if I remember correctly.

No need to follow your schools rules and getting the letter grade equivalent is not required.

Even if you did follow your schools grade guidelines, AADSAS will reconvert it back to their standards, again per your official transcript and their grade standard.

As an example, I tried to write out AP coursework on my application, but AADSAS converted it back to what my official transcript has on it.

Thanks so much man. I thought I was going to have to get a 3.6 in every class over the next 3 semesters to bring my GPA back up to a 3.4+ by the time I apply to dental school. I still have to do well, but I can rest a little easier now 🙂.

No problem. Best of luck.
