Upon reading AADSAS's supplemental information for dental schools, I discovered something interesting.

Many schools have this requirement:

Special information from this dental school:
Send these materials directly to the dental schools At the Same Time you send AADSAS materials:
 Official DAT scores sent by the ADA

I thought the application now contains DAT scores. Are they asking for an ADA report in addition to this? If so, do my designations from when I signed up for the DAT (ie, "Check which schools should receive score information") serve as fulfilling this requirement (as in they send a report in addition to the updating of the AADSAS application)? Or do when have to pay the fee to send additional reports?

Also, Did you guys send the application fee to the school when you submitted, or wait until they asked for it?

Thanks.

The DAT is handled through aadsas. you only need to make sure that aadsas has your official scores.

Schools want application fees at different times - when each school wants you to send it is listed by the school in the section you quoted.

Don't worry about that.... in the old days (2 cycles ago and more) ADA used to send out scores to schools (without involvement of AADSAS). However, they changed that this past cycle but they haven't updated the wordings.

Now, AADSAS handles it all

I called both AADSAS and ADA today and asked the same exact question regarding DAT scores, and received conflicting information. The AADSAS representative told me that the DAT scores as reported on AADSAS (i.e., when you enter your dentpin) will be fine, unless the school specifically asks for the official score report by ADA.

However, the ADA representative told me that every school you apply to must receive the official report (which is $25 per school, aside from the 5 free ones when you signed up for the DAT).

I'm SO confused.

They want your money. You're going to spend thousands on AADSAS fees/interviews, so don't waste more.

The '5 free ones' system is old. When you sign up for the DAT, you select the schools you want your scores to be available to/sent to. There is no limit or difference in cost whether you select 1 or all of them at that time. BUT if you decided you want to add a school later, then it's $25.

I don't really know anything about schools wanting even more official than what they get through AADSAS. Someone else may have had experience with a school wanting that.

After we take the DAT, do we have to do anything to have the scores sent to AADSAS and TMDSAS? Or will they automatically be sent there?

This sounds right. When I signed up for the DAT in May of 2010 (last year), it was still that 5-ones-free system. Turns out that I'd have to pay $25 per additional school to have official reports sent to those other schools (in order to allow AADSAS to release your scores to those schools). I just spoke with someone from ADA and confirmed this.
