I think there needs to be some clarification on SDN in regards to AADSAS, DAT, application cycles, timing, and the like. This could be a start...

-The first AADSAS mailing was Friday, June 30. By "mailing" I mean that submitted AND complete applications were physically mailed to the dental schools designated.

-AADSAS mailings will continue every Friday for all submitted/completed applications.

-To send your DAT scores to dental schools you must do so through ada.org

...Is that information correct?

Add to this list any other dates/advice you find pertinent.

Now a question.... How "ahead of the game" are those who have their applications mailed before August? I should have my application done and hopefully mailed (waiting on a damn transcript) in the next batch. I have a solid application and I want to give myself every advantage possible. Was it a "crushing blow" to miss the first mailing?

Thanks

crushing blow? well, according to many of the folks on here you'd think you were going to be sacrificed if your app. wasn't submitted by june 1st. truth is you are fine and ahead of the game.

you're actually confident since you actually believe you have a "solid" application. kudos to you. the stress-heads of SDN aren't confident with 3.8s and 24 DATs.

bottom line, don't sweat it. you're fine & you will have a DMD attached to your name in 2011 🙂

I submitted last year in late July and I think that was my down fall. I am one of those with a 3.8, although I wish my DAT was a 24 it was still a respectable 18...well respectable in my opinion, but as you said some of the overachievers on here would probably stone me for that score. Unfortunatly, I did not see my application reach anywhere until late October. I wish I had applied earlier and I think that I would be getting ready to enter dental school instead of working as a dental assistant for $7 an hour so I can gain more experience. I am not saying you are to late, but I am saying you should get it in as soon as possible; believe me you will thank yourself later.

I dun understand why they got it so late?
if u submitted late july it goes in late august.
Maybe u did not submit lor or else that does not make sense
ma friend last year submitted on july 23rd and just got accpeted to all
college with 3.8 and 22 dat before jan.
hmm.... do not freak out if u have solid stat ok?
above 3.5 and dat 21 will be a solid stat i guess for just an interview if u
r american and not international if submitted on late july
international should get 3.8 and dat 24 for 80% chance of interview.
good luck international~~~

LOR do not matter. AADSAS does not hold applications because of missing LOR. They send them on later. I am not international. I am not freaking out. I was merely offering my opinion based on last years experiences.

Thanks for your experience. I think I screwed myself. I didn't realize it take 6-8 weeks AFTER you submit/pay for it to get sent out. I'm going to submit/pay TOMORROW, July 6. My last transcript should be processed this week. Do you think my application will reach schools in August? I guess that's not that bad, but it would have been nice to have my app out earlier.

Don't know if you'll be coming back to read this post, but to put you at a little ease, the program I work with has lots of admissions people come talk to our predental students and the general consensus among them was apply early, but within the first couple months (June and July) is fine.

Several schools told us that the earliest they really begin to look at applications is middle of July. Some schools, like UOP, say not even until August cause their new 2006 class starts in July and they're too busy to look at apps before that. You should still try to do stuff early, but I doubt the difference between June 30th and July 10th ist really that big a deal.

Just my 2 cents...we'll see if my tardy application even gets a glance.

Well I got my application submitted and payed for 8 schools on 6/15/06, and then I took my DAT a week later, and I waited to find and apply to 8 more schools because I needed to know where I stood after I took my DAT, so on 6/30/06 I applied to 8 more schools and payed whatever fees where there. So I'm here right now not knowing what happens next 😉 I e-mailed aadsas on how long it would take for my app to get mailed out and I guess I'll look at supp apps and see what ones I can fill out, but other than that is there any advice or things I should do for the time being? 😕

Yea, I'm done worrying. That all sounds about right if I had to guess.
