I left these blank except for when listing my shadowing experiences. Its not required so im assuming its not a big deal. I have no idea how many freaking hours i spent working at diff. places, doing research, sports, frat stuff....ect....anyone have any reason to assume it is a big deal to leave these blank??

thanks

i think the adcoms would assume one of two things. 1.) You had so many hours you couldn't count. or 2.) You had so little hours (e.g. 5 hours of shadowing for a particular experience) and you didn't want to admit to it. If I were an adcom, I would assume the latter.

i had several clinics i shadowed only 5 hrs..just in the morning b/c i was working in the afternoon...but i listed 5 hrs b/c i know for sure thats how much time i spent in that clinic....i actually ended up just estimating hrs for everything i could remember and leaving it blank for stuff that was impossible to estimate.

thanks for your help, i just e-submitted a few minutes ago...glad to have that out of the way

i worked for a dentist for a summer. I averaged 40 hours a week. Do the math and came up with roughly 600 hours. I say put it down.

certain jobs im not even gonna try and guess how many hours

I have hours for dental experience. But i dont know how many hours to put for the work exp. I have had 2 jobs so far. 1 job i worked for 2 yrs & another job i have been working from 6 months. So am i suppose to look at all my paychecks & count the hours? That's crazy & will take forever.

what did you guys do?

I estimated. On a couple of things I had my hours in the thousands... I would put something down.

I actually kept a running log for 4 yrs of all the things i did so I wouldn't have to backtrack and try to remember.... i also checked all my records to see if i left anything out and sure enough i did...about 20 hours of volunteering
-ld

I just left blank for the things I cannot remember. like club activity and stuff.

I have a shadowing/volunteer work question. Can these hours overlap?

The dentist I am shadowing is being really awesome about my situation (needing to shadow) and realizes how small that little room is. So, I have the option to assist while I'm there so his usual assistant can go do other various work around the office that needs to be done. This, of course, is my decision... if I want to assist or just sit there and watch.

Since I am technically giving time w/o pay it is volunteer work... but I am also shadowing...

Can you double dip like that? Or can I only classify those hours as one or the other? 😕

yea i think you can do this by just checking the boxes "volunteer" and "shadowing". i'm pretty sure i was able to click both of these options.

lol...theyre the same thing. You're just putting two labels on the same thing... The majority of people who shadow gets first hand experience, and I'm sure adcoms don't want people checking shadowing and volunteering just because of that...

I estimated too. i worked for a dentist last summer 40 hrs/week for five weeks (200hrs).
