Im about to start my intern year.

My program is looking for AAP delegates from each class to serve as liaison between the residents in the training program, the local AAP chapter, and the Section on Medical Students, Residents and Fellowship Trainees (SOMSRFT).

The current advocacy campaign is on Voting for Kids and the coming year’s topic will be Early Childhood Literacy.

should i sign up? what can i gain from such an experience as an intern?

I would look at it in terms of your interest. Are you strongly motivated by public policy type issUes? Are you willing to take some of your limited free time to be involved in these types of issues. This will do little or nothing for your career UNLESS you'd like to make involvement in AAP and similar groups a part of your long-term career goals.

I love working with the AAP, but, this is a personal decision based on interest, nothing more or less.
