just a couple of abbreviation questions that i didn't feel i should ask the residents:
I'm in the OBGYN rotation

F/E/N ?

AF to IS? (i know AF = afebrile, but i have no idea what IS is all about)

what are some good quick pocket reference guides for obgyn? (like surgical recall was really good for surgery...but don't know what is good for this rotation)

muy gracias

FEN is fluid, electrolytes and nutritional status. It's where you put stuff like their diet, electrolyte supplemenation in your plan. AF is probably afebrile, I'm not sure what IS stands for either. I hate it when people write in abbreviations, especially specialists who write in abbreviations. Maybe the abbreviation is obvious to other specialists in their field, but it is meaningless and therefore makes their note useless to the rest of us.

IS could = Incentive Spirometer? (this would be on a post-op patient or someone with atelectasis) It's the only use of this acronym I've seen.

OB/GYN notes are maybe the worst for acronyms 'cause the writers are in such a hurry! That's where I learned
TTP tender to palpation, and
ATTP appropriately tender to palpation (e.g. post-C/S)
FF@U fundus firm, at umbilicus

There are a ton of others that I've mercifully forgotten. The admission H&P on a laboring patient would be incomprehensible to most people.
