if a 17 year old need an abortion it requires a parental consent? even if the female is an emancipated minor?

Depends on the state. Some require notification, some require permission. A judge can waive the requirement in certain situations if requested by the patient. A legal guardian can take the place of a parent usually. Requirements usually don't apply to emergent abortions. Requirements don't apply to emancipated minors.

so only emancipated minor can do it without parental consent?

A/c to fischers ethics book, you dont need parental consent for prenatal care, aboritons, or STD's, as carrying an unwanted pregnancy would cause more harm to the overall population apparently.

No, that's not what I said at all. Notification isn't consent.

@aspiringmd1015 if that's how it's worded, that's wrong. Over half of the states require a parent/family member/guardian give permission. The exact person varies by state. A judge can waive the requirement under certain circumstances. Most of the other states require a parent/family member/guardian to be informed at least 48 hours before it. There are a few extra-liberal states that have no requirements for permission or notification. Regardless, these laws apply to unemancipated minors only.

All of this is pretty clearly laid out on plannedparenthood.org if you need a better explanation. That's where I looked it up.

kk i guess if you see a ? on it look at the explanation, he said it also varies in state by state, but the step 1 isnt a federal exam, doesnt vary state to state, its a national exam so its going to be all or none. So either its consent required, or no consent required

I am just curious, what would be an example of emergency abortion? ectopic pregnancy?

I don't think this would be called an abortion since an ectopic pregnancy isn't viable AFAIK. Some examples of maternal emergencies that could require termination of pregnancy in order to prevent maternal mortality: preeclampsia, eclampsia, cervical cancer and other cancers, PE, amniotic fluid embolus, MI, any kind of traumatic injury to the mother requiring surgery, etc..you get the idea. It could essentially be almost anything.

Right, I don't think they would ever make you choose between consent/inform/proceed without either. The only questions I've seen regarding abortion specifically were the usual asking open-ended Q to find out why she wants an abortion and I think another one about asking if she considered discussing with the father. The typical minor consent Qs are about receiving Tx for stds and regular pregnancy care, not abortions.
