Hi all,
Can you answer the following questions I have about externship programs:
1. What would a student do in an externship program?
2. How long are such programs? I've heard that people tend to do them during the summer. For many d-schools, there only a 2-3 month summer between 1st and 2nd year, and that there is at most a 1 month break between 2nd and 3rd year. This leaves after graduation as the only other possible time to do them. Doing an externship after graduation seems strange to me because people want to use externship experiences to greatly boost their chances of specialty residencies and even GPR right after graduation.
3. Do you get paid/stipend during externship? If not, do you need to pay tuition? In either case, how much typically?
4. How difficult is it to accepted into such program (class rank, Part I scores)? Do people often have to go to a different city/d-school to an externship?
