I am a junior student, who is applying this June.
I'm writing here for some advice on my test date decision.
My school ends around mid-may, and I was considering to take the DAT around mid-June or late-may.
I actually haven't started digging the material hard just yet, and I think I really need to sign up for the DAT asap to get things going.
So this is my current status: I took some molecular and cell biology classes, some general ecology and genetics stuff, physiology(currently enrolled in), Organic chemistry I, II, etc. I am currently taking the kaplan courses but aren't really working on it as hard as I should be..

My question is:
1. How long would it take for you to be prepared for the DAT? I feel like most people saying about 2 months, which is what I would have left if I sign up for late may. I want to be in the early application line--when would you most likely take the DAT exam if you were in my shoes?

2. If I sign up for late may, then would it be too late to re-take it if I need to in late-august?

3. I heard that the AADSAS is now connected with ADA and that the DAT scores will be reported to each respective schools right away--so we don't have that 3~4 weeks of waiting time for our scores to be reported. Is this true??

Thanks for reading this post, please help me out if you can 🙂

as long as you apply early and take the DAT by mid july, you should be considered an early applicant. and 2 month is sufficient if you dont have a strong background knowledge. 1.5 will do it too.

Think of the test as one shot and get it done with the 1st time. Late august will be kind of late, but not horribly late.

not sure about this one.

good luck:luck:

its allllll about how hard you study. If your one of these guys how can study for 8 hours a day, I highly doubt you'll need more than 4-5 weeks to study for the whole thing.

If your like me and half-ass it for 3 months and only do an average of 2-3 hours per day and keep forgetting material you studied 2 months back and you kept coming back to it (ugly times, sorry im rambling on)..... then 2 months woun't cut it

And when you finish taking the DAT, the score comes up like RIGHT away on the screen lol. Its not like the MCATs where you have to wait 4 weeks

DAMN!, this is the 3rd time I've had to type this!

Ok, I think you're pushing it, but you are already farther ahead than I was when I started. I hadn't touched my stuff for about four years since graduating (i'm 6 months in, and about a month away fom test). If a month is your timeline, then I would suggest going through crack PAT, destroyer, Kaplan book, topscore, and using the ADA sample tests last. Online version (http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/d...ampleitems.pdf), and you have to order the other one from ADA (http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/d...order_form.pdf)
My last advice, is that it sounds like you're going to be pushing yourself pretty hard, try not to burn out. You have to go into this test feeling confident. Good luck!

P.S. (this forum is very helpful, but can be counterproductive as well:laugh:)

Thanks guys for your help!!! =]
I really do appreciate it!
I think I will just shoot for one shot, 3 months in prep, around mid-june.
If anyone else has more suggestions, please do post anything for me 🙂
Thank you!

If your going to apply early june (like June 3rd I think is first day you can apply) then those guys at AADSAS will take approx. 4-weeks to verify all the information yout put in (GPA, all the classes you took, etc etc), this gives you an extra window of time to study and take the DAT at the end of June / first week of July
