Hello all,

It has been a while since I have been back to SDN (I was stressing to get into dental school at that time) (sigh) :scared: NOW I REALIZE that I have bigger problems..haha AKA DENTAL SCHOOL AND THE BOARDS!!!...

anyway, I am about to finish the spring semester of my 1st year in dental school...have 2 weeks off and then start our summer semester 🙁 . Anyway, our school has decided it is best for us to take the boards after our first year, since we cover everything that will be on the boards in the first year..

Can someone who has already taken part 1 tell me what materials to get in order to prepare the best i can. I have 2004 dental decks and am thinking about purchasing the USMLE step 1 book, i haven't decided whether or not the question bank and Kaplan review books are worth all the money...(dental school has already burned a big fat hole in my pocket).

some tips and advice would be awesome!!! =)

thanks to all those who will hopefully respond!!!

Sleepless=)

decks and old exams are all you need. the kaplan stuff is garbage. if you buy any book, get first aid for USMLE step 1

Pryia,

I talked to a 3rd year student yesterday evening and he said First Aid for the USMLE was really helpful. He didn't think Kaplan was that useful. He said you can easily get a 90 doing the decks, the book, and old tests. He is trying to specialize so I assume he tried to do the best he could on it and did well.

Take it for what it's worth. Have fun studying for Micro...Poor UNC....hopefully our team pulls through....down by 5 right now.

hello priya
i think chasing released national boards will be quite enough fr u 1978 to 1998[

Which part of the First Aid USMLE Step 1 did you thought was the biggest waste of time?

Most of it. Very little of it is applicable to the NBDE. For example, sure, they have a section titled Pathology, and there is some great stuff in that section, but there is also lots of overkill.

The Physiology section did a good job of explaining high-yield stuff about many processes.

Yeah, isn't the USMLE the exam for medical students? How do the dental national board and the USML compare? I would think there would be a lot of superfluous stuff.

Have anyone used Rudman's to study for it?
