About to submit, would like opinions on school list

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i guess i should also mention the OOS schools i chose were not only based on where my stats fit into their averages but also where i could see my self living and going to school. at the end of the day i think i will stay in tx but i'm open to going OOS to live in a different city.

No brainer to apply to the Texas schools.

UCSF is a reach. All other schools are okay (leave it up to chance, etc.).
Wouldn't hope too much for Oklahoma or UIC, no matter how much you loved the schools.

i knew ucsf would be a reach but im ok with it. they accepted 2 tx students last year so i thought what the heck, the app fee is worth it to me.
and the same for oklahoma. chicago im still debating. they're now accepting OOS students and are upping their class size to 70. is it worth the app fee??

i have everything ready to go but would like a second opinion on the schools i'm applying to.

-overall gpa: 3.54, science gpa: 3.63
-applied in 2008 (first DAT 17/17/17), worked for a few years and went back to school in 2012

-new DAT: 22AA/22TS/21PAT (24 Bio, 24 gchem, 19 ochem, 21 QR, 20 RC)
-shadowing: >200 hours, volunteering: >200 hours
-excellent LOR's, will have the committee packet
-i have worked full-time since 19 to put myself through school
-tx resident but open to going OOS

baylor

oklahoma (did their pre-dental day course and LOVED the school)
nova
tufts
uic
upenn
columbia
take out nova and tufts. I hope you get into OK. Good luck!

My friends that went to Nova did not get as much patient experience like the rest of us. Tufts have not had the best clinic resources in the past. Message me if you want to chat more. Good luck

It seems like this is the first cycle in which they're doing this, so it' hard to tell if it's worth applying or not. If you think UCSF and OK are worth applying to, then I don't see why you shouldn't give UIC a try.

I will tell you this though: I know it's hard to rank your schools according to your preference now, but if you were accepted to all 3 Texas schools and UIC, would you go to UIC? Ask yourself that for the rest of the schools on your list. You might be able to cut a couple schools off your list (e.g. Tufts for being crazy expensive).

i have and i keep going back and forth. at the end of the day i see myself staying in texas so I've considered only applying instate. my fear though is not getting accepted and not having any backup plans OOS.

Your chances at all Texas schools are higher than that of OK, UIC, and probably all other schools on the list. If you're afraid of not getting accepted to a Texas school, but are open to going OOS, it would be smarter to apply to schools with higher OOS acceptance rates. Examples are Maryland, Louisville, Minnesota, all private schools, etc.

If you have the money, apply where ever you want.

thank you.

I know a lot of people from Texas that got into OK when they applied as an out of state resident. That is totally do-able, but just to let you know that Texas schools are getting harder. Houston's average GPA for their incoming class was a 3.8, so it is smart that you are applying out of state.
